Bicoll specializes on the most successful source for marketable pharmaceuticals - plant metabolites as basis for further development programs.
About 25% of the drugs prescribed worldwide are derived from natural products. Currently 121 of such compounds are in pharmaceutical use as top-selling pharmaceuticals (e.g. Taxol).

So far only less than 1% of the biological diversity of plants has been to some degree investigated. Through its location in China, Bicoll has secured legal access to the biodiversity of Chinese plants.

To improve the collaboration partner's hit success rate and to increase development speed, Bicoll offers its partners a specifically tailored compound approach. Bicoll's property-based technologies BIFRAC N and BIPRESELECT turn plant extracts into promising sets of compounds.
Bicoll's ProfilesTM and pure substances can be selected according to the test system of the partner company (e.g. selection of promising compounds to cross the blood-brain-barrier) and are fully compatible with HTS systems and a wide spectra of cell based assay systems.

Collaboration workflow

Two round screening process
Starting with plant profiles, Bicoll's approach of compound selection typically follows an economically optimized two step process - a first round of screening of plant profiles and a second round of screening for pure substances that are being isolated from the material showing activity in the first screening series.

Structure elucidation
After hit validation Bicoll offers structure elucidation capabilities to lay ground for a qualified development process. Also available are pure natural compounds and defined isolation strategies from the selected plant species that can be configured according to customers' requests.
